Rising 400m straight out of the sea, this magnetic limestone island is said to be the third most magnetic spot on Earth, and the rumoured tip of lost Atlantis.
Off Ibiza's southwest coast, a jagged limestone pyramid erupts from the Mediterranean. Es Vedrà is uninhabited, protected, and impossibly photogenic at sunset, but the legends around it are even bigger than the rock itself.
Local lore says it's one of the most magnetic points on Earth, alongside the North Pole and the Bermuda Triangle. Sailors claim compasses spin near it. Pilots say instruments wobble overhead. Scientists shrug, but the stories never stop.
Some say Es Vedrà is the tip of the lost continent of Atlantis. Others tie it to Homer's Odyssey as the island of the Sirens. Either way, watching the sun drop behind it from the cliffs of Cala d'Hort is one of the most quietly powerful experiences on the island.
Best viewed from the hike along the Torre des Savinar, a short, steep trail that ends at an 18th-century watchtower with a front-row seat to the rock.
